Day One: The entire team of shooters is picked up at Heathrow airport in the morning and transported to The Porthmawr House, in Crickhowell, Powys, Wales. Everyone gets settled in before a mid-afternoon supper followed with gun selection for the week. There will be a choice of vintage English side-by-sides and more modern over-unders. Guests may bring their own guns, if they choose. Let Sean know asap.
Day Two - Warm-up day of driven pheasant shooting near Trallong in Brecon Beacons National Park. We will be accompanied by several shooting instructors willing to lend a hand with high incoming presentations. Additional coaching will be provided as needed throughout the week.
Day Three - Full day of driven ducks (mallard and teal) and pheasants at a small estate bisected by the River Usk. Pheasants and ducks are released by mid June. This means that they are wild and high flying by the time we get there (it is actually illegal for estates to supplement their stocks throughout the season). The ducks are a mix of wild and reared birds.
Day Four - Full day of driven pheasants and woodcock at what was once a dowager's estate near the town of Brecon. The woodcock are all wild and on migration from Siberia and Scandinavia. The drives are spectacular and the pheasants are quite high.
Day Five - Full day of driven pheasant and partridge across the border in England at a large estate located on a ridge at the edge of the Forest of Dean overlooking the Severn Vale. The estate is renowned for its high birds, with well over a dozen named drives, each as spectacular as the next. Thanksgiving meal to end a wonderful day.
Day Six - Full day of driven pheasant and partridge at another large estate near Sedbury, between the River Wye and the Severn estuary, back in Wales but near the English border. This is a fabulous shoot, and represents a fitting culmination to the week.
Day Seven: The entire team is driven back to Heathrow airport so that folks can catch afternoon flights.
