How do I pay for my trip?
We ask that a deposit of $5875 be made at the time of booking to secure your spot for the 2018 Perthshire Shoot. Another installment of $5875 is due by May 1st, 2018. Email or call Sean Delaney right away if you are interested. 717.919.5317
What if my spouse wants to come?
Non-shooting spouses are welcome to join us for an additional $2200. This includes five nights' lodging, all meals, drinks in the field, transportation, organized day trips for sightseeing and one day in the field with shooters. Spouses are welcome to share pegs on some or all days for the same rate.
What date should I arrive at Edinburgh Airport?
We suggest arriving at Edinburgh Airport on Monday, November 12th or early Tuesday morning, November 13th. Our shuttle will pick you up at noon on Tuesday morning.
What if I miss my pick up?
Please contact Liz at 717-418-8575 as soon as you know you will be delayed. If we have to wait an hour or less, we will. If it is longer, we can arrange a shuttle service for you. The incurred cost would about $300.
What date should I depart from Edinburgh Airport?
Book your departure flight after 1:30pm on Sunday, November 18th. Our shuttle will drop you off at Edinburg Airpot around 11:00am. If plans are made outside of our group pick up and drop with the shuttle, you will have to find your own transportation. If you are traveling with your own gun, we recommend departing after 2:00 to allow time to clear Customs and Border Control.
What clothing is required? What is the etiquette?
Many shooters like to wear typical English shooting attire, but it is not a requirement. If you are looking for a particular bit of kit, we can offer suggestions. Staying comfortable, warm and dry is most important. No camouflage or blaze orange though. Rubber boots, rain gear, warm clothes in case of snow, dry boots, good shooting gloves, a tie, a comfortable jacket and a friendly attitude. Eye protection and ear protection are highly recommended. The etiquette of British Shooting is described well here by Purdey.
What if I want to bring my own guns?
That is perfectly alright, and we will introduce you to our local agent in the UK who can arrange for your Visitor's Permit for temporary importation. Please let us know right away as it takes 4 months to process the gun permits.
What is included in the trip?
Transportation to and from airport (via bus) and all shoots (via 4x4 vehicles), four days of driven shooting, lodging at the elegant Kinloch House, guns (if needed) and ammunition, traditional elevenses and shoot lunches on the estates, gourmet dinners each evening, wine or beer with dinners, traditional Scottish evening with Piper and the "address to the haggis", game licenses, liability insurance, and gun permits (for your guns or ours).
What is not included in the trip?
Flights, loader if desired (£80 per day), gratuities to head keepers (£230-£250 total), gratuities to hotel staff (£100), alcoholic beverages consumed outside of meals (especially single malts), and overages (subject to 10% allowance) which will be shared equally amongst guns.
What if I need to cancel my trip?
All deposits are refundable if someone has to cancel provided we can get someone to fill the peg. There has been a waiting list every year, so filling the spot, given enough notice, may be feasible. Or we can hold the deposit for the following year. Even if someone cancels at the last minute, a portion of the money would be returned. Certain costs would remain even if someone didn’t attend, the cost to each estate specifically, food related costs would not be incurred, and we could not in good conscience keep it. We highly recommend that you get trip cancellation insurance regardless, and we can provide recommendations.
How much money should I bring?
Other past shooters suggest no less than £550. Gratuities to the head keepers, while discretionary, generally total around £250 for the week. The rest should be enough for drinks, other tips (to our staff and house staff) and incidentals. US debit cards will not always work in Britain. We would highly recommend that people arrive with some pounds. Your local bank should be able to help you.
