Day One: The entire team of shooters is picked up at Heathrow airport in the morning and transported to The Porthmawr House, in Crickhowell, Powys, Wales. Everyone gets settled in before a mid-afternoon supper followed with gun selection for the week. There will be a choice of vintage English side-by-sides and more modern over-unders. Guests may bring their own guns, if they choose.
Day Two - We will have a relaxed Welsh breakfast and then head out for a day of driven pheasant at a small estate in Lower Chapel, in the heart of Brecon Beacons National Park. The pheasants are released by mid June which means that they are wild and high flying by the time we get there. The anticipated bag for the day will be approximately 200 birds. We will be accompanied by shooting instructors willing to lend a hand with high incoming presentations. Additional coaching will be provided as needed throughout the week. We will then return to Crickhowell for a casual de-brief followed by dinner at The Dragon Inn, a few blocks from Porthmawr House.
Day Three - Breakfast at Porthmawr House, followed by a full day of driven pheasant and partridge at a large working estate between the River Wye and the Severn estuary in the Forest of Dean, in Wales near the English border. This is a spectacular shoot with exciting drives, and we expect a bag of approximately 200 birds. Dinner will be back at Porthmawr House, and should include some game from the previous day.
Day Four - We will have a relaxed start, with a late breakfast at Porthmawr House and an opportunity to explore Crickhowell for an hour or so before heading to some local woods for a chance at driven woodcock. The woodcock, which are on migration from Scandinavia are wild and a real treat to see, let alone shoot! We will be back to Porthmawr House later in the afternoon, and will be staying in for dinner.
Day Five - Breakfast at Porthmawr House, followed by a full day of driven pheasant and partridge near the town of Ross-on-Wye at a grand estate along the River Wye. The estate is renowned for its high birds, with remarkable topography and numerous named drives, each as stunning as the next. The anticipated bag is 250 birds. Dinner will be back in Crickhowell at The Bear, an historic hotel established in 1432, just a block from our back door.
Day Six - Breakfast at Porthmawr House, followed by a full day of driven pheasant and partridge at a fabulous estate in the Severn Vale, overlooking the Severn Estuary. This is a spectacular shoot with exciting and challenging drives, and is a fitting finale for the week with an anticipated bag of 300 birds. Final shoot dinner will be back at our home for the week, again prepared by our private chef and featuring some of our game.
Day Seven - Early light breakfast at Porthmawr House and then the entire team is driven back to Heathrow airport for afternoon flights.
